Children's Day Fun Fair

0 comments   Saturday, September 30, 2006

i went to Salang in the morning to rehearse for the skit that we were having tomorrow for Children's Day... i'm playing one of the philistines, and that means practially no lines... and that's good ! =)

also practiced a bit of the song "David" (i think) from the cd "Be Not Discouraged" by the SMS... very nice and catchy song ! i tended the moth-ball store with Gabriel and Tim Lee where a moth-ball will be rolled down a pipe, and you have to anticipate and smash it when it comes down...

i liked the sausage with cheese inside, the mini-version taiwanes sausage and the roast chicken drumlet (very sweet) !!!

both children and adults had fun on that day (even Alex who planned, and yet went around getting stickers from the stalls like a kid)... hahaz~ guess marriage doesn't change a man... boys will grow to be bigger boys !!! *grinz*

we went to Junxiong's place to catch some EPL action, and John was commenting that Liverpool alway loses whenever he watched them play... i think it's not his fault... =)

Wedding Reheasal

while waiting for Ziyang on the MRT platform at Admiraly, i met Weilun on the train on the way home from camp. I saw him and gave him a smile. He gave a grin in return. He's in uniform, i'm in bermudas. That simply means ? ORD wor ! I waved him goodbye as his train departed from the station.

Ziyang came on the 2nd train, and I hopped on. We got off at Jurong East to take a ride from Dan's van to Galilee Church for Say Liang's wedding rehersal. The groom-to-be bought dinner for all of us, and the rehersal started in about 15mins thereafter.

I'm the door-opener for the wedding with Wenjie, but he's not here today so Grace took his place... you really have to strain your ears to listen to P.Sng from inside as to when to open the doors ! and yes, Lay Hong was nervous even though this was just a rehersal... hahaz~

ORD WOR !

Ladies and Gentlemen, I've officially out of the army today !!! *hurrays*

went to camp in the afternoon to collect my IC, and firstly I had to get some signatures on a form (if not, they won't reuturn you IC)... got most of them except for S1 (CPT) and DYS4 (LTA) (both were in a meeting)... i waited from 2:30pm to 4:30pm for them ! 2 hours !

when they meeting was over, i went to get DYS4's signature first... I had greeted him earlier on, and he just walked past me and looked away without saying anything... WHAT A SNOB ! now i know why most of the people hated him, and even asked my chief PTI to fail him in his IPPT ! worse of all ? he's just a bloddy LTA ! yeah right, 2 bars big shot ah ? *pui*

my last signature was S1, and he jokingly said that he dun want to sign at first... (note how different the attitude was)... but he then signed and asked if I got everything settled and ready to ORD or not...

i got a ORD cert, and a plaque from my unit... and that means ? ORD WOR !

Interview Time !

0 comments   Wednesday, September 27, 2006

i called up Ice Ong from RightPeople Pte Ltd on Monday, and arranged an interview today morning... I'm applying for the post of Java Programmer at a place near Chinatown (and i'm quite sketical about Chinatown being old and rundown)....

i went changed train at Dhoby Ghout, took the NEL and got off at Chinadown station... I was expecting rows of old shophouses, and I got a suprise ! the area was so built up ! the company that i went to was also well furnished ! the office decor was fantastic ! i was impressed by a glass panel that they used instead of the normal whiteboard... maybe you can put backlight and place coloured transparencies over too ? ingenious....

anyway, i was expecting my interviewer, Ice Ong, to be a young lady... but it was NOT ! she asked a lot of questions, like my hobbies, my character, etc... keep asking me to tell me more about myself when I think i have told her like almost everything already ? and yes, the unavoidable question and reply....

Ice: so, are you single ?
Tim: yeah! i'm single....
Ice: huh? u sure or not ? dun bluff me !
Tim: well, yeah... i'm not bluffing lah....
Ice: but you are such a "charming" young guy !
Tim: well, outta luck maybe ? *laughs*

after the interview, she gave some comments that I was rather nervous and quiet... told me to act more confidently and hide my nervousness, and also to speak up more during the interview and just talk... but not too much...

she also arranged me to meet the IT head today, then i need not come back another day since I'm here already... but after checking out that shes' in a meeting, she suggested that I go lunch and come back later...

hung around the place, and checked out an antique store and a couple of collectable toy stores (somehow they have so many toy shops around the area)... ate Chicken Rice at a nearby foodcourt as it was the cheapest around there ! all the rest are restaurents...

in the interview with the IT head (she would come across to you as a busy and demanding person)... she asked about my past experience, and what I would like to achieve in the next 5 years... tough question as I've only just come out of the army, and haven't worked in the IT sector officially yet... how to ask me this type of question !

My Plan for the next 5 years
(1) Decide whether to be working as Java Programmer / Web Developer / Games Programmer
(2) Read up more on programming
(3) Get a part-time IT/gaming-related degree

Things to do in the next 5 years
(1) Get braces done
(2) Start saving $200-$500 every month (not to be touched)
(3) Take back my room, and furnish it myself (inclusive of sofa-bed)

Sunday School Lesson: Joseph & His Brothers

0 comments   Sunday, September 24, 2006

it's my turn to teach Sunday School today to the senior primary kids, and we're currently going through "Children Of The Bible"... Aunty Susan gave an introduction first, and Grace taught on Samuel & Eli's 2 sons, and mine's on Joseph and his brothers...

well, i had diffuculty bringing my points forth this time round... not as good on my first lesson that I taught... =/

i was falling asleep during service as i somehow didn't managed to sleep last night... turned and tossed about in bed cause i was thinking of a lot of things and not dreaming ! think i slept in the end around 3am...

Say Liang asked me to stay behind today after the prayer meeting, and i ordered Roast Chicken rice which was "stolen" thereafter... had to settle for economic rice in the end...

During the wedding technical reheasal, i wasn't involved at all in the end .... -_-" so i took Dan's van to John's place as we're having soccer later on... had a fun time playing with Asher, Abigail and Issac.... =)

during soccer, i felt much more tired than usual... the last time i played i was sprinting up and down, and the fatigue level was rather high in that evening ! i haven't been running at all since I started clearing leave from army... got to start running soon !!!

i brought my dog down for a walk yesterday, and hope to do so regularly since I've more time now that i'm going to be out of army... she's getting older now, and can't walk as far as she used to.... something intersting that i heard yesterday while downstairs...

Lady #1: "hey, look ! doggie ! (says to child) see ? dog ! D-O-O-G !
lady #2: D-O-G lah....
Lady #1: D-O-O-G ? hmm....
Tim: *smiles*

i've been appying for jobs online and sending out my resumes lately, and so far there have been a few responces !

(1) PSA, Programmer Analyst (waiting for 2nd call to interview)
(2) Xaby, Web Developer (waiting for reply)
(3) IT Support Intern

oh man, i need a job !

i checked my email in the morning, and walla~ i received a reply for the job i emailed PSA for the job of Programmer Analyst. They called me down to come for a test on Java, and gave me an indian person to look for... they also called me up to send my transcript over again... =)

wah~ test leh ! long time never test... Java ? home still up in my head after 2 years in SAF....

besides all that, heres.... Talking Cock in Parliament - Hossan Leong ! (i gotta stop surfing the internet for nonsense like this)....

in this short clip, he basically summarised the entire history of Singapure... in a SONG ! (but Hossan do behaves a little too gay, right ?)

Spiderman & Ninja Turfles (japan version)

it's wee in the early morning at 5:30am, and just watched soccer (Man-Utd won Celtic 3-2).... surfing around and trying to get myself to sleep again when I came across this ! it's the japanse version of spiderman in the late 1980s

and here's another one, their japanese version of the classic "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (cowabunga~)....

from what i seems, this is what i gathered about what our fellow Japanese likes their about action heroes:

1. no matter what, to wear power helmets with matching action suits...
2. Fight in rooftops, carparks (action hero) or right in the middle of the city (giant robot) where everyone somehow seems to have disappeared or something
3. IMPORTANT: either operate a giant robot no matter what action hero they are (even if it's Spiderman) or own a dino-bot or something (like the turtles)... -_-"
4. If they going gets tough, combine powers to transform into something even bigger(turtles "saint mutation" or power rangers for example)....

how interesting our japanese counterparts are ! *grinz*

Singapore Dreaming

0 comments   Tuesday, September 12, 2006

the army's giving out free tickets to the local film "Singapore Dreaming", and HAN called me at 12pm and said that the movie will be screened at 2:45pm... so i continued to laze around.... then he called up again at 1:50pm...

HAN: "aye, where are you ah ? the movie starting at 2:25pm leh"
Tim: "i thought u said 2:45pm !!!"
HAN: "issit ? where are you now ?"
Tim: "at home lah..."
HAN: "huh!!! u still at home ah? faster come !!!!

and i got ready as fast as I could and zoomed out of the house... and yes, I gave up my seat in the train today to a lady with a child... =)

arrived there at 2:30pm, and met HAN who was waiting at the lobby for me... we quickly rushed up to the cinema, and hey hey~ SAF giving free pop-corn and drinks too ! not bad ah, taking great efforts to brain-wash/promote local films by paying with TAXPAYERS MONEY ! =P

the show's not bad actually (cause it's free, and i get free pop-corn & drinks too), but I wouldn't pay $8.50 to watch a movie where people actually converse in HOKKIEN in the 1st part of the show... and it feels kinda wierd somehow too...

a small peek into what our mothers always used to tell us...

and apparently, I didn't knew that the cinema was practically filled with people from my camp ! went KLKK with the guys afterwards at HEREEN, and I did spotted some nice shirts there.. =)

went to Auntie Susan's place in the evening for dinner, and also to teach Shermaine guitar... it's her 3rd lesson already...

the WTC workers and teens presented our special, "Builded On The Rock" today... after service, Junxiong & I went to Junction-8 to get a present for Daniel... wanted to get him a mini-soccer ball (around palm-sized) wehereby we all would sign in gold ink, but it's out of stock ! so we settled for 2 tops - one picked by me, and one by JX... =)

when we arrived at the Sngs place, it stated drizzling and then to pour ! so we decided to dig into the food first, and soon after, the kids started the pinata... they sure had a great deal of fun !

and of course, after that its OUR turn to have fun... took 4 chairs for a short game of soccer, and it's been ages since we played ! my legs are itching for more action... =)

woke up in the wee morning to meet John at Yishun MRT for Community Bonding Day at Yishun Firestation (basically just an open house for the fire-station, and why give it a totally different name for it)... We arrived soon by taking a ferry bus from the MRT and found Ziyang, Tim & Agnes there already... saw Junxion there, and he brought us around...

we tried the impulse gun which shoots out a blast of water with the force equivilent to 6 times a punch Mike Tyson would give you (one can die from the punch)... the equiptment looks like it came from the Ghostbusters Movie, and it's pretty heavy which is close to 20kg i think...

tried it first with Junxiong supporting the firing-gun-thingy behind me, and i shot the wooden board right down... it all happened so fast that i couldn't see any water coming out at all ! then i tried the 2nd time on my own, and wanted to place the gun infront this time and slightly under my arms to absorbe the recoil... but they said that i might break my arm this way, and to keep the gun away from my body...

ok, 3-2-1 BLAST !!! the gun flew from in front of me to right behind me ! the recoil is incredible ! i even hurt my right wrist from the sudden jerking action, and so did John ... -_-"

tried the rest of the stuff like using the mist gun, fire extinguisher, etc ... left soon with John & Ziyang to catch some action of the Singapore Opens at Marina Bay... but we only watched for about an hour before heading back north to catch soccer at Junxiong place when he knocks off from the fire station...

we had more than an hour to spare when we reached Yishun, so we had Hokkien Mee at a coffeeshop before heading over to John's place first to kill time... and by the time i reach Junxiong place, i realied that my pockets were empty ! John called my phone, and then his house... thankfully, Carol assured that my phone & wallet was with her at the house... *phew*

Yes, Everton beat Liverpool 3-0, and Johnson gave the slow Liverpool lots of problems with his strength and pace...

Tim Cahill celebrates Everton's opener with Johnson

gotta stop leaving my stuff lying around everywhere...

really really bad day

0 comments   Thursday, September 07, 2006

it's been an incredible day ! so incredible i can't even believe it ! it's like one whole year of "bad luck" combined all into one... -_-"

started in the morning meddling around with my pc trying to add some old hard-discs to it... installed the controller card and tested the 3 HDDs... not working ! when i was about to put them back, i realised that the power cable the i attached to them was disconnected from the tower's power supply ! so i tested 3 of them again, and found that all 3 of them aren't working... nice job !

then i attacked my old zip drive and tried to see if i can salvage any data from myskool days in NYP... wala~ i found one ! sweet... i then took the zip disc out and tried the rest... nothing ! ok, put 1st zip disc again... it got stuck !!! restart pc and try again... cannot READ !!! gave up in the end, disconnected everything and put my casing back together...

Effort: 100%
Results: 0%
Stupidity: 200%

ate lunch and got my stuff ready for ultimate pickup in the afternoon... but before that i went to camp to do my FFI at the medical centre, a procedure to see if you're medically for to ORD from army... alighted at YCK, walked all the way in to camp and reached the medical centre... but somehow, the place is all empty ! asked the duty medic at the desk...

Tim: aye, is the MO around ?
Medic: MO not around...
Tim: the 2SIR MO leh ?
Medic: on exercise
Tim: the 20SA MO leh ?
Medic: gone for medical board review...
Tim: (thinks that maybe he'll return later on)
Tim: will be be back soon ?
Medic: he's at Pasir Lebar there...
Tim: (crap)

so i decided to make the most of my day and go get some signatures on my clearance form... but i couldn't find anyone ! then heard there's an exercise ongoing, so not a single soul is around... great ! i wasted my time !

went for pickup, and hung around at Liang Court and ate dinner there as it was still early... pickup was great though, and some of the teams that are playing in the Singapore Opens 2006 are there... the ppl from the philipines team are frightening good... at least a good game of ultimate makes up for the day...

left the place late at 8pm plus and started walking to the MRT with Clarance... halfway, i realised that i had left my Nalgene waterbottle behind ! Clarance willingly accompanied me back to get it... walked to the MRT again, and Clarance went off to take his bus home... while taking the escalator down, i realised that my my visor was still on the field !!! went back again to the field to get it...

really pissed off at my day already, doing so many things again and again for nothing... and i'm late to feed my dog diinner as i had wasted a great deal of time waling to the fields and Clarke Quay MRT so many times....

what is happening ???

PHP & FLashMX

0 comments   Monday, September 04, 2006

i spent first half of the day gaming away on DOTA and NFS (with my steering wheel this time)... so guilty that i spent the other half doing some real work and learning how to make PHP and FLASH work together by following a book that i bought some time back from Kinokunya... the end result ?

click on image to view the screenshot !

so that's what i'm gonna be experimenting with in the next a few day... and next is CSS ! man, i gotta find a web-hosting site where i can develop and host my own blog/forum done up entirely in PHP/FLASH... =)

ABM Anniversary

1 comments   Sunday, September 03, 2006

stayed up to catch the opening games of Euro 2008 last night, and England gave Andorra a great 5-0 whipping ! the best part ? Paul Robinson, the english goalkeeper didn't even TOUCH the ball !

Andorra has been losing 3-0 or 4-0 in the last a few games since 2004, and the biggest was a 8-1 thrasing by the Czech repuplic ! think u can catch their matches if you want watch a goal galore... =)

went to church in the morning, and had a nice ham-cheese (we call it hum-ji in army for some reason) bun for breakfast... Sayliang also passed to me his wedding invitation in Darren's van...

i like the design !

we didn't have lesson for Sunday School today for the upper primary kids, but rather a quiz session... and they can remember what i thought last week ! =) we also practiced the special that the kids were presenting for children's day, with 2 songs - Be Ye Kind & Every Sunday I Love To Go To Sunday School... all teachers were also presenting a little something... a fridge magnet that the kids made (Asher made mine)...

thank you for being oar teacher... =)

in the afternoon, we went over to Ambassador Baptist for their anniversary celebration, in which we all had trouble staying awake after lunch... and yes, we were presented with a door-gift of yet another magnet !

even more magnets !

well, it's been a long, tiring day... but it's a good one indeed... =)

Singapore bishop overpaid for five years

Singapore bishop overpaid for five years

Singapore, Aug 30 (DPA) The bishop of the Methodist church in Singapore was mistakenly overpaid for five years, the church said Wednesday.

An internal review found Bishop Robert Solomon’s pay and allowances totalled 946,000 Singapore dollars (US$606,410) since he took office in January 2001.

The church’s highest office bearer received nearly 372,000 Singapore dollars more than what he should have.

The overpayment was an ‘honest mistake’, The Straits Times quoted a church spokesperson as saying.

The church was satisfied that no one was lining his ‘own pockets’, he added.

Some members are still upset. An anonymous letter was circulated expressing unhappiness that the full sum had not yet been retrieved and that those responsible for the mistake were not asked to resign.

The bishop, 50, is in the process of repaying the extra money, used to finance such items as home utility bills and car expenses, according to a report by the church’s General Conference Executive Council.

The review by more than 100 church leaders concluded that the bishop had been wrongly given a much higher pay package than he was entitled to receive.

A doctor by training, Solomon was re-elected in January 2005 to head the 33,000-member Methodist Church. It runs 16 primary and secondary schools in Singapore and has more than 40 churches.

The church said it was studying internal procedures to prevent such a mistake from recurring.

Wah, so if you find so much more money in your bank account diam-diam and pocket the money for so many year ? so much for the Methodist Leader ! disgracing all christians around !

Monster House

0 comments   Friday, September 01, 2006

i chatted with Kenny, an army mate whom I met during BMTC Bravo Coy & SISPEC Echo Coy, in the morning and then met him up in the afternoon to catch a Monster House... he had a SAFRA $7 voucher which means we only had to pay $4 for the movie ! sweet~

Click On Poster To View The Trailer !

the whole flick is an animated and hilarious thrill-ride tale about three kids (Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner and Spencer Locke) who must do battle with a mysterious home that is determined to eat every trick or treater in sight on Halloween...

went to his place afterwards to troubleshoot his PC (good thing he stays in Admiraty too), and had dinner near my place after that...

i also bought a piece of Unagi (Japanese EEL) for $3.80 to cook for lunch tomorrow ! =)
