due to the many ILLEGAL OPERATIONS that have been happening recently, i decided to give my dear PC a major overhaul today, and also installing WinXP on my SATA HDD rather than my ancient IDE one for faster read/write speeds... all was going fine, when I made a major mistake ! I had connected my SATA HDD and left it outisde of the casing on the floor... just when my right foot accidentally gave me a kick and causing the whole system to HANG !!!
what's great ? it refused to start up after that ! it was an expensive hundred dollar kick in-my-opinion... T_T
i thought that it was a goner, and that means forking out a hundred over for a new HDD already... but then i decided to try an unorthodox method - removing the HDD for a while and that it'll hopefully boot up again ! (so much for studying IT)...
and guess what ?
IT WORKED !!!
i also vacuumed the interior of my pc casing, removing the dust, etc ... i have lotsa installing & configuring over the next a few days, and i've just skinned my OS !!! it's not Windows Vista, it just looks like it ... =)
now to get apache server installed and start experimenting with PHP !
woke up at 3am and took the bus to the padang... did met up with Yunli before the start of the race, but i lost her when the race start... supposed to meet her at SA Cathedrel (which we didn't ran past at all)... -_-"
and you wonder why i couldn't find Yunli...
well, the Army Half Marathon (AHM) aka Shear's Bridge Run is one physically exerting 21.1km run ! i took 2hrs 24mins to finish the run... keep "over-heating" towards the end of the run, and kept pouring cold water over my head !
look what happened to my tag after the run...
the turnout was pretty good ! the ladies were pretty good runners too ! had difficulty keeping up with some of them during the last a few km....
the annual turnout just gets better every year !
now i'm toying with the idea of running either 10km / 21km for the end-year Standard Chartered Marathon (running 42km is a BIG NONO)... any one keen/interested ? =)
oh, i also gave my 1st sunday school lesson today (and giving it after running 21km is no easy task)... topic was on soulwinning ! aunty susan said that my presentation & content was good (thankfully)... having the children calling me Teacher Timothy sound kinda wierd too ! hahaz~
we had a children/teen's combined outing at upper pierce today, and we had a great turnout of 50 children & 20 adults !!! the children had a fun time of games + telematch, songs, food... the teens on the other hand had a short game of floorball...
booked in later that night as my unit catered a bus for AHM runners ! grueling 21.1km tomorrow ! must sleep early !
we went with Alpha Battery to Khatib Camp early in the morning as they required swimming instructors for their recreational swim, which mean the FS.... -_-"
it's pretty relaxing as i swam a few laps while HAN tried to teach Cher Mong to swim... Aplha 2IC also asked on adivce on tumble-turns...
after that, we ate Wonton Mee at the canteen... the rest of the guys went for their SAFRA talk while i went back home (ORD personal excused ! wahahahz)...
had Youth Sheperd Meeting in the evening, and yes, we had supper again ! ate beef murtabak and kopicino... i just love suppers after SG when we have a time to chill-out and chit-chat together about the past week... =)
starting today, i officially started to give Shermaine guitar lessons at her place... she's pretty okay in her strumming, and just gave her a few pointers on mainly how to improve on the sound that comes from the guitar by how she strums & some techniques.... will work on applying these techniques into songs + strumming variations next week !
i'm actually getting paid for this (undisclosed fee), so i better do a good job ! a good guitar player may not be a good teacher, so i gotta work on that... =)
also got the sunday school material from aunty susan as I'm supposed to teach a lesson this coming week... but i have to run 21km in the morning, not sure if i can make it to church in time.. (or if my brain's still workable by then) lolz~
have to arrange with Yunli on how to meet her if she wants me to run with her... somehow...
my replacement PTI came today.. but sadly for him, i'll be clearing my leave next week ! HAN went to Pasir Lebar Camp to bring him over in the morning... nothing much to look forward to except for the soccer match in mid-afternoon...
we're up against 3 SIG, and we managed to beat them 4-2 ! 20SA only managed a 2-2 draw with them... =)
6 more days to clearing leave, 39 more days to ORD !!! *sweet* =)
went back to Camp in the morning, had breakfast before heading down to S1 Branch to help Chief Clerk with anything that she has for us to do... we had a half-day off too.... sweet huh ? =)
somehow it seems that i'm rather prone to flu/cold... oh man, i need to get well soon !
i woke up in the early morning with a dry throat, and through the day a fever developed ! went to see the MO, and he gave me an MC for the day and 2 days of light duties... think the viral fever is back (yet again)! gotta rest lots to get better for the REAL RUN on Sunday...
looks like i'm not running the 18km tomorrow morning...
well, we had a sudden power cutoff today around lunchtime... then suddenly people started rushing out and shouting "FIRE FIRE"... i thought initially that it was just fire drill, until i noticed that the air smelt funny... i then noticed the black smoke coming from the distance... it's a REAL one !
the men started pouring out of their bunks with helmets on, and armed with fire extinguishers and buckets... i also got to know that one of the bunks near the building has caught fire !
the whole room looks as if an explosion has taken place, and the window panes were all broken ! the exterior walls were all covered with black soot... we then proceeded to have lunch (after kaypo-ing) at the canteen, and had a meal for 5 with Yew Soon (who was attached out to AI and came back as a mortar evaluator for 2SIR)...
in the afternoon, we were supposed to have friendly match with 2SIR, but they didn't show up ! so we had a mini-match among ourselves instead...
had a 6.9km run in the morning which equals 3 big rounds of the camp... i went fast on the first round and reached around 9min for the 1st 2.3km, then took a recovery jog for the 2nd round for 14min, and going all out for the last round... but i had a stitch in the last 400m at 8mins ! too painful to continue, so i crawled back for a 12min...
i led the warmup and warmdown today... dunno whether Han see that i going to ORD and lemme have some last chances of conducting such stuffz...
well, we are supposed to do some area-cleaning after that, but suprisingly we did a REAL area cleaning today ! we started giving our floor toilet a scrub (i think it's not washed for 50 years... the shower area stinks near the drainage part man)... and soon the other bunk-mates started to help out ! before you know it, there were around 15 ppl srcubbing the toilet together ! hahaz~
it was a slow and painful day today, and everyone was practically sleeping the whole day through... thanks to boss who tuned the radio to GOLD 90FM !!! by the end of the day, i had a great headache from the terrible oldies....
we're having a friendly soccer match with 2SIR tomorrow evening, and i just found out that our main striker has twisted his knee ! o_0"
also, we're on standby this week next tuesday, and that means one phone call means i have to rush back to camp ASAP.... hope it's on a saturday, cause i got the REAL RUN on Sunday.... more clashes ? i got to run 18km on Friday morning when the 10km REAL RUN is on Sunday Morning...BUMMER !!! -_-"
ok, i left my phone in camp on Friday... here's the story - i book-in early in the morning and went ahead to charge my phone that's out flat.. hurriedly packed my stuff into my bag as i realised that we can go home after the run for a half-day off.. without my phone !
being without a phone is certainly a GREAT handicap - u can't call ppl, ppl can't call u ! going out means that you have to arrange the time beforehand and both parties cannot cancel the arrangement and be on time... tough times huh ?
i thought initially that it'll be gone by Monday already as June was mentioning of someone else answering my phone when she called me... losing the phone is 'still ok', but losing all of your contacts is worse !!! anyway, i have 2 phones in mind to get next month already... and including a sim-card backup device... =)
presenting our first candidate...
it's has mini-SD for expansion for the photos, and 2 mega-pix isn't too bad...
and lastly our second candidate... 3.2 Megapixels with AutoFocus, 16x Digital Zoom + Built-in Xenon Camera Flash = very good photographs !!!
i stayed back for prayer meeting today after church as I think the pickup at Bishan might not continue after all... i hope i can still find my phone which is in camp... dun wanna lose all my contacts again ! better get myself a sim-card backup device !
also just realised that the Community Shield Match b/t Chelsea & Liverpool is tonight, which means a guy's gathering at Junxiong's place tonight ! and just for once ...
GO LIVERPOOL !!!
and oh, i promised to show you how large is the cup of milo that i drank on Friday night... and so here it is ! it costs $1.40 for a cup....
Cup Of Milo: $1.40... Personal Enjoyment: Priceless
i went down to Liang Coourt during lunchtime to collect my race-pack for the New Balance Real Run at Sentosa next Sunday...
REAL RUN 2006 - it'll be my first time running on sand ...
somehow, i didn't receive the confirmation email from the organizers... can't login to the website too ! thankfully my name is inside their participants listm, and i got my race-pack rather smoothly... oh, Yunli and Junxiong will be running too on the actual day itself too !!! now on to the race-pack contents...
My Race Tag !!! supposed to tear out the bottom left for admission onto the island, and bottom right is for the lucky draw ?
the race-pack also contails a black race-chip to scan through when u pass through 2 electronic barriers along the running route, with a cable-tie to fasten to your shoe...
Yes, red is my colour ... Hope i don't die out after the 7km road & 1.6km sand, cause i've still got a 2.4km to go !!!
i booked in yesterday night as I had to wake up early for a 16km run @ East Coast Park in the early morning... the bus leaves at 6:30am !!!
well, i managed to clock 1hr 28min for the entire run... pretty tiring and almost seemed endless ! was reallie hungry by the time i finished, and thankfully there's diluted milo (SAF, what u expect) and tuna sandwitches for refreshement ! took the bus back to camp, but dropped off on the main road outside camp in which one of the junior specs gave me a hitch-hike cab-ride to the MRT...
i was so tired and i zonked out for the afternoon ! lolz~
went in the evening for the youth SG meeting at Clara's Place.. but when i reached at 8pm, i was the first one ! everyone came pretty late... we had supper after that, in which I had 3 pratas - kosong, egg and cheese... and the ice-milo cup was HUGE ! (i'll try to get a pic of that in here)...
ABM's having a potluck lunch at their new place today, and the food was REALLIE GOOD ! i liked the glutinous rice, which was steamed instead of baked.. resulting in the rice not being sticky and clumpy.. soft texture and it tastes good ! why ? cause who ever thought of adding bacon to glutinous rice !!!
there was sushi, nachos + dip, bee-hood fried by Bro Johnny, Sting-ray Curry (ever head of that ? it's fabulous) by Aunty Alice, some muchroom-kebab thingy by Yunli, fruit cocktail, and some pork-thingy...
after that, i rushed to Bishan Park for National Day Pickup where it's the only day u see red/white tops... my virgin soccer boots made her debut today, was a little too tight at the toe-area until i loosened it a bit to make it just perfect !
I had planned to go home at the end, but somehow got persuaded by Kenneth & Clarence to catch fireworks (again) at City Hall... quite disappointing as it's pretty far from Kallang from Shears Bridge...
also, i ate Carl's Jr twice in a row for dinner, which was very sinfull indeed !!! i tried the criss-cut fries, which tasted GREAT with the house dip which was cut vegetables + sause... also, i got to know that army guys can use their SAFRA card to get a 10% discount, in which 3 of us saves about 9 bucks in total... *grinz*
met up with Junxiong at Yishun MRT first, before discovering that Kok-Yong was late ! so was Winnie... but the was Olive, who was reallie late... all of our tummies were grumbling on the train ride to Raffles Place...
headed to Marina Square via City Link, and discover that Carl's JR had a long queue ! not only that, getting food anywhere else was far worse ! so we just queued and got our burgers before heading down to the Esplanade to "chope" a good place to view the fireworks display later... also met 2 of Winnie's friends who were also my secondary school juniors.. and one of them has the same birthday as me, and stays at Admiralty too !!! talking about coincidence !!!
we took a pretty long journey to get there though, very slow due to the sheer size of the crowd on that day (all heading to the same destination as us)... my paper bag containing my dinner had somehow torn apart during the underpass while walking there !
we found a nice spot on the grass and sat down (finally) to have our burgers... soon enough, the skies were litted up in an awesome array of colours !!!
here are some short clips of the various fireworks on display, taken at Marina By The Bay... it'll take some time for youtube.com to approve them though, so fret not if it's not playing !
Fireworks Part 1 - Appetizers
Fireworks Part 2 - Regular Ones
Fireworks Part 3 - French Fries
Fireworks Part 4 - Onion Rings
Fireworks Part 5 - More French Fries
Fireworks Part 5 - Throwing Out Everything !
after that, it was still kinda early at 9pm... so we headed down to Cafe Cartel (after a long discussion) to sit down... All cakes were on 50% off after 9pm !!!
Taken after my American Cheesecake @ Cafe Cartel, Raffles Place
i brought my new soccer boots to camp today, only to find out that the soccer match on Friday HAS BEEN POSTPHONED !!!...
just can't wait for National Day as Ambassador Baptist is having a potluck dinner @ their new place ! nothing much to look forward to this week besides that...
has anyone got their national flags up yet ? i dun mind putting mine up if I had one in the first place.. they should sell/give out the flags at MRT stations or something...
one thought just came to mind today - my pet dog's 10 years old, and not much years left... what happens if she passes away ? the house will certainly be a lot quietier and less lively... not sure if i can bring myself to get another dog though
ok, I gotta bring my dog down more often for garden walks while i still can !
i got new cleats today ! i was poundering on the idea of getting the exact same pair.. so that way, i have 3 wearable shoes (2 left, 1 right) as the old pair had the right shoe in gone-case condition... but decided that it's time to let go of that pair (or perhaps i can keep the working left boot and wear it with my white ? =P)
what i like most ? firstly, the laces are not the usual kind.. it's stretchable ! and also, you it can hide your laces neatly without it fear of dropping out or something.. the white strap can be pulled over the underside of your boot (it's a neat design, and i like it personally)...
i also got myself a pair of cheap chin-guards with ankle-support as i have a soccer match this coming Friday... it's the annual inter-unit soccer competition, and i'm just gonna have fun until I ORD ! (nah, as long i got a chance to get out of camp, i'll play for ANY competition ! lolz)...
went tracting in the early afternoon with Alex & June, Grace, Bro James & his 2 daughters - Heidi & Velda, Geok Sang & Julee... we were giving out flyers to invite children in Shunfu, Bishan to our Sunday School.. Shunfu's a pretty much well-to-do area (most households have at least 1 maid), and suprisingly all chinese but many are christians/catholics !
after that, i went back to Peminpin for WTC... before ending, we played a game kinda like Pictionary except that we did our own game cards ! much fun & laughter included !
well, saturday's supposed to be a Vegetarian Day for me, but I had spicy drumlets for lunch from McDonalds ! so i made it up by eating vegetarian for dinner... why the sudden vegetarian-craze ? dunno ? trying to be healthy-living ? i was never normal from the start anyway ... lolz~
abstaining from meat is HARD !!! kerbing the craving for a whole day is amazing already... but articles show the benefits of greens and not eating meat blah blah blah... i think being vegetarian one day in a week should suffice for me ! =P
today, most of the guys came back to camp to settle their clearance forms... boss had a chat with them, and gave them OFF until their ORD next week !!!
wish i can have that too ! lolz~
anyway, we joined 20SA for a 10km out-camp run at Bishan Park today.. the marshallers weren't doing their job and made me run the wrong way a few time ! worst was i went the wrong turn at ran more than 1km !!! gave him a talking to when i ran back to the junction !!! o_0"
after that, we ate dinner at someplace nearly with Weilun, Louis & Han.. got cheated on the $4 mutton soup that had only a few pieces of lamb, and the soup wasn't good at all !
anyway, Yunli can't make it to have a trial run at Sentosa for the 10km REAL Run tomorrow... so that means i can wake up late tomorrow !!! *grinz*
asked boss to let me off early to go for Clarke Quay pickup and he agreed ! (ord perks i guess)... supposed to go early at 4:30pm, but Charlie Battery last minute asked me to conduct an IPPT Specific Training for them at 3:30pm... o_0"
thankfully, the men were cooperative, and i was able to rush off at 4:50pm... made it to Clarke Quay at 5:35pm, but there were only 2 ppl throwing in the field !!! i was thinking that pickup wasn't possible, but somehow ppl only started showing up late at 6:20pm... but we managed to have 7 on both lines to have a proper game though...
by the time it ended, it was 8 plus !!! so I just decided to just stay in for the night in camp (i got COS duty, to open the office at 7am), and i've been sleeping early for the past weeks anyway... i somehow get rather drowsey past 10pm and zonk off anytime ! lolz~
ok, the new kronos soccer boots (never ever buy KRONOS) that i bought for $29 is gone... the studs have fallen off after the ultimate league finals, and it's not wearable after trying it out during soccer training in camp today ... T_T
our first match is next Friday, and we seriously need to squeeze more training sessions in !
anyway, gotta go down for pickup at Clarke Quay tomorrow... heard it has revived for a few week now... my fingers are itching for some disc after the finals ! *grinz*
